Safety Street
Safety Street originated with a discussion about creating some excitement for NAOSH 2010. We wanted to introduce a new idea that would raise the awareness of safety and prevention, and one that we could build on in the future. It is a street in any town in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and includes services available in most communities, represented as ‘houses’ on the street. This creates a sense of neighbourhood and community, a strong theme for the north. Everyone knows your family, and works with them, teaches them, is friendly with them, and creates opportunities for them. To us, Safety Street is a natural extension of that theme.
For 2011, we have a few things going on!
1. What's Your Plan? Send us your safety plan and earn the right to be on Safety Street for 2011! How do you keep your workers safe? How do you keep safety top of mind at your company? Prizes for best innovative plan, best representation of the theme What's Your Plan? and best overall plan! Check out our 2011 winners!
2. If you're in Yellowknife, register your team of up to 4 people and compete in the company challenge at City Hall on May 6th, 2011 from 11:30am to 1:30 pm. Great prizes to be won! The winning team!
3. If you're in Iqaluit, check out the Safety Street game show - register your team of 4 to compete at the Cadet Legion Hall on May 6th! The game show winners!
4. If you're a young worker, ages 13 - 25, visit dontbeanumber.ca and play our new online game, One Life Logan! Enter your email for a chance to win an iPad2! When you play the game, make sure you type NWT or NU beside your name so we know where you're from. Tournament runs from May 1 - 14, so go and play! See who won the iPads in the NWT and Nunavut!
5. If you're a teacher or parent, we have some colouring templates for the younger kids! Click here for 4 templates - have your students or kids colour them and submit them at our Yellowknife or Iqaluit offices, and we'll get them up on our website. For all submissions, we will do random draws, so make sure to include your address.
We have some great prizes and fun planned for NAOSH 2011!
